Character Edge Sports Camp

Camp was awesome this summer...despite the rainy start, we ended a great a great week with 25 kids participating! The coaches from Tennessee were incredible and taught us some great skills and Erin did a fabulous job teaching us the character qualities of patience, teamwork and compassion and how they relate to sports and being a strong athlete. Thank you families for participating The Peak Church's first sports camp!

Day 1 - Patience

Patience - Accepting a difficult situation without giving a deadline to remove it.

"Success is like anything worthwhile. It has a price.  You have to pay the price to win and you have to pay the price to get to the point where success is possible.  Most important, you must pay the price to stay there." Vince Lombardi

"And endurance produces character, and character produces hope..." Romans 5:4

"I just never give up.  I fight to the end.  You can't go out and say, 'I want a bag of never-say-die spirit.' It is not for sale.  It has to be innate." Serena Williams

Day 1 Recap

Camp started with baseball fundamentals: how to field a grounder, catching a fly ball and a chance to bat and field before the rain drove us under the pavilion. After snacks and a short talk on the character quality of patience, the coaches led the campers in Hula Hoop Challenge (featuring two teams competing through a hula hoop path while trying to beat the opposing team), look up/look down, rock/paper/scissors, elephant ball and other games that could be played under the pavilion or in the small bathroom spaces. It was a day of great fun and while the rain may come tomorrow, we are excited and hopeful to hit on some other sports while talking about teamwork!

Day 2 - Teamwork

Teamwork - the combined action of a group of people, especially when effective and efficient.

"The way a team plays as a whole determines its successes.  You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth

"A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." - Proverbs 11:25

"I am a member of the team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual is the ultimate champion." - Mia Hamm

Day 3 - Compassion

COMPASSION – INVESTING WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO HEAL THE HURTS OF OTHERS.

“DO YOU APPROACH EACH DAY WITH CONFIDENCE, KNOWING THAT SOMEONE’S LIFE CAN BE ETERNALLY CHANGED BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU SHARED WITH OR DID FOR THE PERSON?” TIM TEBOW

“LET YOUR COMPASSION COME TO ME THAT I MAY LIVE,FOR YOUR LAW IS MY DELIGHT.” PSALM 119:77
